Where creativity meets clarity, and vision meets action.
Driven by curiosity and built on purpose, this is where bold thinking meets thoughtful execution. Let’s create something meaningful together.
Project Overview
I partnered closely with a local author to develop three book covers and more than 20 illustrations across 3 original books: Spine Tingling Tales, Spine Rattling Tales, and When Nightmares Crawl.
My role extended beyond illustration into creative direction, visual development, and stakeholder alignment.
The work required transforming written narratives into engaging visual experiences while balancing author expectations, reader appeal, and production.
Challenge
The primary challenge was ambiguity.
Success depended on more than illustration skills. I needed to establish a collaborative process that helped uncover visual requirements, clarify expectations, and build alignment before moving into the final artwork.
The author had vividly imagined and described some scenes, characters, and environments, while others had yet to be defined. This created a spectrum of requirements ranging from highly prescriptive requests to open-ended creative exploration.
Research Insights
To establish a strong creative foundation, I began each project with a manuscript review, the output being comprehensive notes and initial sketches.
Certain scenes carried heavy emotional weight and required keen attention and emotional acuity during development.
The author frequently responded more effectively to visual exploration than verbal discussion, making sketches an important communication tool.
These insights and validation discussions became opportunities to clear out assumptions, gather feedback, and progressively refine the visual direction.
Outcome
The project resulted in:
Three custom-illustrated, full-color book covers
Twenty-one interior illustrations in black and white
A cohesive visual language across multiple publications
A repeat client relationship built on trust and collaboration
This work strengthened my ability to operate as both a designer and creative partner.
